Teaching in K-12 school libraries and elementary classrooms
Dr. Morris is Teaching Associate Professor at the School of Computing and Information, University of Pittsburgh. Areas of teaching include school librarianship, children and youth library services/materials, and digital tools for learning and engagement.
Rebecca’s scholarship aims to build excellence in school libraries and youth library programs in order to support the learning and information needs of young people, and to communicate the value of libraries to stakeholders. The two main streams of research that contribute to this overarching theme are (1) the use of digital tools for student learning, information, and engagement and (2) bridges between PK-12 education and the academy of school librarianship, including the education and professional development of librarians and school leaders. Rebecca is the author of School Libraries and Student Learning: A Guide for School Leaders, published by Harvard Education Publishing Group (2015). Written for school principals and administrators, this book offers strategies for leveraging the expertise and resources of the school librarian for student learning. Journal publications authored and co-authored by Dr. Morris include School Library Research, Knowledge Quest, School Libraries Worldwide, the Journal of Research on Libraries and Young Adults, and Teacher Librarian.
Dr. Morris is Co-Editor of School Library Connection, a print publication and online professional development suite published by ABC-CLIO. Her role with School Library Connection includes working with article contributors, editing content, writing and blogging, and building online professional development workshops and related PD activities.
Dr. Morris is an active member of ALA, including divisions AASL, ALCS, and YALSA. She also develops and presents professional development to school librarians, teachers and administrators.
Dr. Morris earned her MLIS and PhD in Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh.
