Rebecca is a professor, librarian, editor, author, and researcher. With 15 years of experience in graduate-level instruction and 8 years teaching experience in PK-12, Rebecca models critical engagement with pedagogies and pursuits that center equity, honor curiosity and differentiation, and emphasize caring support for learners. She has written two professional books; authored or co-authored 100+ articles, chapters, and columns for educators and researchers; and led numerous national committees for awards, conferences, and professional development.
Current areas of exploration and inquiry include:
- guiding pre-service librarians to leverage and evaluate digital tools and generative AI for student learning, engagement, and assessment
- contributing to innovative and responsive education and professional development for school librarians
- examining alignment of professional standards and competencies
- online pedagogies and equity in online learning experiences and resources
- professional development for librarians and educators.
Rebecca is the author of The School Librarian's Compass: Stories and Reflections to Help You Find Your Way (Bloomsbury Libraries Unlimited 2023) and School Libraries and Student Learning: A Guide for School Leaders (Harvard Education Press 2015). Peer-reviewed research publications include School Library Research, Journal of Research on Libraries and Young Adults, School Libraries Worldwide, and Teacher Librarian.
Rebecca served as co-editor of School Library Connection, published by ABC-CLIO from 2015-2023. Editorial responsibilities included developing issue themes and content, recruiting authors, editing and supporting articles, and writing columns, articles, and interviews. For SLC, she developed original content on school librarianship and educational technology (live webinar and audio-recorded); moderated webinars; and developed scripts and on-camera segments. Rebecca also created supplemental learning exercises and materials for school library practitioners and LIS faculty.
Previous faculty positions include University of North Carolina at Greensboro; Simmons College (now Simmons University), Boston; and adjunct faculty, McDaniel College. Current teaching credentials: PA Teacher Certification (Instructional II) in Elementary Education (K-6) and Library Science (PK-12).
